These are some features that are planned in the short term (or are already implemented) in the PID controller:
- Auto-tuning.
- Serial interface (RS-232) so information can be sent to a PC, like temperatur plots etc.
- A desktop (PC) application so the operator can modify the settings of the controller (through RS-232).
- The possibility to select different characteristics of the controller, i.e. conservative, moderate or aggressive response to temperature change.
And here are some ideas for future development (thanks a lot for all your valuable comments on the coffeegeek forum and the home-barista.com forum):
- Detect the water flow so the heater could be activated before the temperature falls ("feed forward").
- Numeric display(s).
- Dual setpoints (brew/steam)
- Dual channels for double boiler machines.
- Various timer functions.
- Water level detection/control.
